The Internet
The internet is made up of millions of computers connected in a shape like a spider's web.
Like the spiders web, the internet is difficult to break. If one of the computers blows up and stops working, everything can still keep going until the computer is fixed. In Computer Science you call this a Fault-tolerant system.
There are creatures that live on the internet: crawlers, robots or viruses.
Crawlers are usually harmless and spend most of their time reading your web pages, making indexes for companies like Google.
Robots are sometimes good and sometimes bad. They do things like organizing information on Wikipedia, but can also be used to search for weak web sites to attack.
You want to stay away from viruses. In the worst case they can steal or delete your files, use your computer to send spam or stop your computer from being able to start up at all.
